Today, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the Clovis Unified School District Police Department was notified that a Gateway High School student was possibly in possession of a firearm while on campus.  Upon receiving this information, the CUSD Police began an investigation and made contact with a 16-year-old female Gateway student on campus.  When contacted, a loaded firearm was located in her backpack.  The student was detained, and CUSD Police notified the Clovis Police Department per protocol.

Detectives from the Clovis Police Department responded to Gateway High School and continued the investigation.  Several students were interviewed during this investigation.  Detectives determined that a 15-year-old male student was also involved, although he did not physically possess a firearm, and he was arrested for conspiracy.

Detectives also learned that an altercation was rumored to take place after school, off-campus, at a location in Fresno.  Their investigation determined that the female student possessed the firearm for personal protection, and there was no evidence that the firearm was to be used at Gateway High School.

The 16-year-old female was arrested for possession of a loaded firearm and ammunition on a school campus, along with conspiracy. The 15-year-old male was arrested for conspiracy to possess a loaded firearm and ammunition on-campus.  Both will be booked at the Fresno County Juvenile Justice Center.

We would like to thank the Clovis Unified School District and the Clovis Unified Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
