Just after 12:00 P.M. today, 6/29/16, we received a 911 call from a witness in a parking lot near N. Villa Ave./W. Herndon Ave. regarding an unknown male stealing a purse from a parked car. Dispatch quickly broadcast the call, providing the detailed information received from the witness. Officers converged on the area and located the vehicle a short distance away.

Officers arrested Brandon Merrell for felony vehicle burglary and conspiracy, and Ashley Sandoval for conspiracy. Both suspects are from Fresno and have been transported to Fresno County Jail. The purse was returned to the victim.

This arrest and the return of the property were made possible because of the quick actions of the witness who called and provided the details. This is a great reminder to call us immediately when you see a crime in progress! It’s also a reminder to take your belongings when you park and lock your vehicle, regardless for how long you’ll be away from it.
