Clovis, CA, April 2, 2025 – Community members have an exciting opportunity to create the Clovis of tomorrow. The City of Clovis is currently updating its General Plan – the overarching plan that guides the future of Clovis – and has just opened applications for the General Plan Advisory Committee. The committee, also known as the GPAC, will play a pivotal role in helping the City plan for future land use, housing, transportation, economic development, resource conservation, community health, parks, and more. The City is looking for 15 committee members, representative of a diverse cross-section of the community, to take part in this transformative, multi-year process.
The Clovis General Plan establishes a comprehensive framework through which the City manages its growth and provides a collaborative vision for the future of Clovis. The General Plan guides land use and development for the entire Clovis Planning Area and is comprised of eight elements: land use, economic development, circulation, housing, public facilities and services, environmental safety, open space and conservation, and air quality. The City of Clovis last updated its General Plan in 2014, and although the current General Plan has effectively served the City, it has undergone multiple revisions to its land use diagram and requires updating to accommodate evolving laws and housing trends. The General Plan Update is a crucial undertaking that will shape the development and direction of Clovis for years to come, and the City is committed to engaging community members throughout the process, beginning with the development of the GPAC.
The GPAC will serve as one of the primary channels for the community to provide input and make recommendations on the General Plan Update. The committee will meet in person no more than once a month over the course of 17 months to help the project team understand community concerns, values, and expectations; identify critical issues, conflicts, and constructive resolutions; capitalize on the creative ideas and insights within the Clovis community; keep the broader community informed; and provide recommendations. Applications are open now through May 30, 2025, and applicants are not required to be residents of Clovis but should have a meaningful connection to the city through business or community involvement. The City Council will appoint 15 GPAC members, with appointments anticipated to occur in July 2025. To apply, visit CityofClovis.com/GeneralPlanUpdate
For those unable to participate in the GPAC, committee meetings will be open to the public, and there will be many more opportunities for the community to share their input throughout the General Plan Update process. More information will be available soon on the city’s website.
