On 2/1/17 just before 6:00 A.M., an observant neighbor noticed two suspicious males in a neighborhood near Peach Ave./Shepherd Ave. The suspects were seen running from a parked vehicle. The two suspects got into a vehicle and left the area, the neighbor immediately called police and followed the suspects from a safe distance. Officers stopped the vehicle nearby and detained two suspects. During a search of the vehicle officers located stolen property. Officers searched the area and located two additional victims of thefts. During a search at one of the suspects residences additional stolen property was located. All of the recovered stolen property from this incident has been returned to the victims of the thefts.
18 year-old Zachary Smith and 19 year-old Garrett Gust, both of Clovis, were booked into Fresno County Jail for three counts of theft, and one count of conspiracy to commit theft.
These arrests are a direct result of vigilant neighbor who called law enforcement immediately when they saw something suspicious in their neighborhood. This is a good reminder to lock your doors when you park your vehicle, and never leave property in plain sight.
