Clovis, CA, February 28, 2025 – The future of elections in Clovis has officially been drawn. After more than a century of at-large elections, the Clovis City Council is transitioning to districts, and as part of this historic process, the City invited residents to submit their own draft election district maps for consideration. In mid-November, the City began holding Public Hearings; in mid-December, the City began accepting community submissions; in early January, the City held a well-attended Community Map-Drawing Workshop; and this week, the City released the final draft election district map submissions – one of which will soon be selected as the future of City Council elections in Clovis.
Thirteen draft election district maps in total were received ahead of the final submission deadline of Friday, February 21, 2025, and all thirteen maps are available for viewing now on the City’s website. Of the thirteen submissions, ten meet the required criteria for district boundaries and population makeup established by California and federal law. Following Council discussion and public input gathered thus far, the Clovis City Council is primarily considering six submissions, three of which were recently received ahead of the final deadline and all of which follow a five-district structure yet display significant differences in boundaries and population makeup. Before selecting the final map, the Clovis City Council wants to hear from the community and has one essential question for residents – what would you like to see for the future of Clovis?
On March 4, 2025, the Clovis City Council will hold its fifth and final Public Hearing at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers to gather public input on the draft election district maps, select a final district map, and determine election sequencing for that map. City Council will also introduce an ordinance for the adoption of by-district elections in the City.
For those unable to attend the final Public Hearing, all draft map submissions can be viewed on the City’s website at cityofclovis.com/districts, and an online feedback form is available to share your thoughts. To view the draft maps, click the gold “Interactive Review Map” button and select the layers titled “400” Districts and “500” Districts from the Layers List. Proposed election sequencing and PDFs of each submission containing accompanying demographic data are also available under the Tuesday, March 4, 2025, Draft Map Public Hearing drop-down.
This is a historic moment for Clovis, and residents are encouraged to share their thoughts on the final map submissions and attend the final Public Hearing as the Clovis City Council selects the City’s first-ever election district map. Once official, the Clovis district map will be used for future municipal elections. The map may also be adjusted after the Census cycle.
