Clovis Police received a call from a resident in the area of Shaw/Fowler on September 20, 2017, just after 2:15 A.M. regarding suspicious subjects in their driveway. The victim reported to dispatch that it appeared the subjects were next to their vehicle trying to break into it. Officers arrived in the area within two minutes and observed a green pick-up truck leaving the area at a high rate of speed with its exterior lights turned off. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over however it led to a pursuit after the vehicle failed to stop. At one point, the suspect driver hit a fence, and failed to stop again. The pursuit ended when officers used the PIT maneuver (pursuit intervention technique) near Sanger and the three suspects were arrested without further incident. During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, Officers located the rims and tires belonging to the victim’s vehicle.
Officers arrested two 18 year-old adults and one 17 year-old juvenile. Abinadab Amavizca-Rendon and Gregory Santiago-Bautista were both arrested and booked into Fresno County Jail for conspiracy, grand theft, possession of stolen property, and additional charges. The juvenile was booked into Fresno County Juvenile Hall for the same charges. The stolen property was returned to the victim.
Following the arrest, Clovis Police Detectives served a search warrant at one of the suspect’s homes in Fresno and located evidence leading them to believe that these suspects had committed several other similar crimes. Clovis Police would like to take this opportunity to remind our residents to call us immediately when they see suspicious activity so our Officers have the chance to hopefully solve crimes such as this.
