The Clovis Police Department’s Crisis Negotiations Team and SWAT were called out early Friday morning following a road rage shooting that occurred just hours before. Just before 11:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, officers responded to the area of Fowler/Ashlan for report of a shooting that had just occurred between two vehicles.
The investigation showed that an initial road rage incident occurred in the area of Clovis/Shaw between two vehicles. Minutes later while near Fowler/Ashlan, the suspect shot the victim’s vehicle twice, hitting it in the hood and driver’s side window. Witness statements and our city-wide camera network both assisted in the identification of the suspect and his vehicle. During the search warrant at a home near Sunnyside/Shaw, Tactical Operations arrested the suspect without incident. Detectives also located evidence buried in the backyard, including two handguns, and ammunition. It was also determined that the suspect’s child was in the back seat of his truck when the shooting took place. The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Hector Lopez of Clovis. Lopez was booked into Fresno County Jail for several felonies, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, and child endangerment. The child was turned over to family, and thankfully, no one was injured during the incident or warrant.
