The City of Clovis has officially announced the opening date of their new Clovis Senior Activity Center, and before the big day arrives, is inviting community members of all ages to attend a Ribbon-Cutting Celebration and Community Open House. The Ribbon-Cutting Celebration is set to be held Saturday, November 18 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the new facility located at 735 Third Street in Clovis and will include a dedication program, tours, live music, and lunch. The new center is set to officially open to the public the following Monday, November 20.
“We are looking forward to the opening of Landmark Square and to welcoming our community to the new Clovis Senior Activity Center. The new center represents Clovis’ commitment to our senior community and our investment in the future of our city, and we are grateful to our partners who helped make this new community resource possible,” said John Holt, City Manager of the City of Clovis.
The new Clovis Senior Activity Center takes the place of the former facility, which has been located at 850 Fourth Street since 1982. The new 25,000 square feet facility features a conference hall, commercial kitchen, art room, billiard room, classrooms, and a gym and is officially named the Clovis Senior Activity Center: A Smittcamp Family Legacy in honor of the significant support and contributions made by the Smittcamp family both to the new facility and the former.
The Ribbon-Cutting Celebration is free to attend and will include a special program featuring a live performance by the Clovis Chorale and remarks from several local leaders followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community open house. When the facility opens on Monday, November 20, a wide variety of classes and programs will be made available Monday – Friday to all seniors 50 and better, and participants don’t need to reside in Clovis to participate.
