The City of Clovis is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Ekk to the position of Fire Chief for the Clovis Fire Department. Chief Ekk has more than 23 years of experience working in the fire service, including four years as Fire Chief of the Hanford Fire Department. Chief Ekk joined the Clovis Fire Department in 2019 as the Deputy Fire Chief and has served as the Interim Fire Chief since June, 2023, following the retirement of Chief John Binaski.

In his new role, Chief Ekk will oversee a staff of 77 employees including firefighters, fire prevention officers, and administration. In addition to leading the vital work of fire suppression and prevention, Chief Ekk will supervise the rebuilding of Fire Station 2. The Clovis Fire Department is responsible for providing services to Clovis residents related to Fire Suppression, Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials Spill/Release Mitigation, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Life Safety and Fire Code Enforcement Services, and Emergency Preparedness.

City Manager John Holt said, “The Clovis Fire Department is in good hands. For Chris, the safety of Clovis residents and our firefighters is his top priority. His extensive experience and abilities make Chris the right choice to take on the challenges and opportunities facing our growing
city.”

Chris has been married for 19 years to his wife Catina, and they are the parents of two children, 18-year-old Maximus and 16-year-old Zoe.

This appointment comes after an extensive nationwide recruitment effort. Chief Ekk’s promotion is expected to be confirmed by the Clovis City Council during the November 6, 2023 Council Meeting.
