The Clovis City Council selected Councilmember Vong Mouanoutoua as the new Clovis Mayor and Councilmember Diane Pearce as Mayor Pro Tem during the regularly scheduled Clovis City Council Meeting on Monday night. Measure Y, The City of Clovis Public Safety/City Services Measure, was declared to have passed, and Councilmembers Ashbeck and Mouanoutoua were re-elected. The two Councilmembers will serve for a term running through November 2028.
The remainder of the City Council consists of Councilmembers Matthew Basgall, Drew Bessinger, and Diane Pearce. All have terms which run through November 2026.
Councilmember Ashbeck was also recognized Monday night and thanked for serving as mayor since 2022. This marks the conclusion of Ashbeck’s third term as mayor.
Clovis voters elect a five-member council to serve as the city’s legislative and governing body. The members serve four-year terms, and they select one member to serve as mayor and another to serve as mayor pro tem, each for two-year terms. Elections are held every two years in November of each even numbered year. Last month’s general municipal election was the city’s last election to be held using an at-large voting system. The city is currently undergoing a transition to district elections and welcomes community participation as the city’s first district map is drawn.
