Zero DUI Drivers Arrested at Checkpoint Overnight

The Clovis Police Department’s sobriety/driver license checkpoint on northbound Clovis Avenue at Palo Alto netted zero DUI drivers overnight. 1,600 cars and trucks passed through the checkpoint between 8:00 P.M. and midnight. Clovis Police stopped and screened the drivers of 324 vehicles. Here are the stats for the evening/morning:

·         0 people were arrested for being unlicensed drivers.

·         1 person was arrested for driving on a suspended license.

·         1 vehicle was towed.

A “STEP” or Selective Traffic Enforcement Program grant made this checkpoint financially possible. It will allow the Department to hold more than 60 special traffic details, including 15 more checkpoints, over the next year and two months. Funding for this STEP enforcement detail is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
