City of Clovis logo. In November, Clovis residents will be asked to vote on Measure B, a proposed tax measure to help fund public safety. If approved, this tax would be paid by tourists and visitors who stay in Clovis hotels and motels. A yes vote on Measure B could fund the hiring and retention of more police officers to help Clovis remain the safest city in the Central Valley. About Measure B, Earlier this year, a 25-person Citizens Advisory Committee recommended placing a tax measure before the voters of Clovis to raise additional revenues to fund the hiring and retention of more police officers to help Clovis remain the safest city in the Central Valley. The Clovis City Council accepted the recommendation from the Committee and unanimously voted to place the item on the ballot for voters to decide. In order to pass, Measure B needs a simple majority of voters (50% plus one) to vote yes. Photo of Old Town Clovis with buildings and Clovis ave. A Yes Vote means Measure B would raise the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) in the City of Clovis from 10% to 12%. 12% is the same as the City of Fresno. The TOT is a hotel tax paid by tourists and visitors who stay in our hotels and motels. City of Clovis residents DO NOT pay this tax unless they stay in a Clovis hotel or motel. A 2% increase in the TOT is expected to bring in an additional $500,000 annually. Measure B revenues will be available to fund public safety and hire additional police officers. All revenues will stay in Clovis. A no vote means The TOT would remain at 10% with no increase to the amount paid by tourists and visitors who stay in our hotels and motel. An additional $500,000 in revenues would not be available to spend on public safety needs. To learn more about Measure B, visit CityofClovis.com/MeasureB or call (559) 324-2060
